1987 toyota pickup carburetor problems. As I stated I had some carb issues and I checked all the main jet ports power piston power valve and checked all the vacuum lines and cooresponded with the book and the dealers spec. All lines are connected. 1987 toyota truck 22r carb.
Sometimes goes into a mode where it I had the same problem 3 weeks ago with my 87 Toyota truck. I posted the problem here and the response I got was- On the passenger side rear of the carburetor is a cold air idle valve it has a two wire pigtail on it remove the valve and clean it out with carb cleaner. -All the intake manifold and carb mounting bolts are tight-All vacuum hoses are connected and in good condition-The timing was set to 0 degrees with all vacuum advance hoses disconnected and plugged-The HAI diaphragm had to be removed because of clearance issues with the DUI distributor and the vacuum line was plugged.
Discussion Starter 1 Jul 10 2009. I have been trying to complete my toyota pickup restoration and am running into some problems getting the truck to run right. The pickup is a 1987 Toyota 4X4 standard cab short bed with a federal version 22R.
The truck runs on high idle OK it starts off a little rough but then picks up to the proper speed. Tap the gas pedal two times to engage the fast idle function on the carb then turn the key to start the engine. Hold the gas pedal at half throttle and turn the key to start the engine then release the pedal. Start the engine then press the pedal all the way to the floor and release.
Pop the top off of the carb and remove the secondary jet. Make sure it is perfectly clean. Next pull the fuel rail out of the secondary venturi.
Its the square looking aluminum thing that runs across the bore. It is held in by a steel wedge on the far side. It needs to come out before.
