All other things being equal the mechanical efficiency of the propellers of a drone increases as the number of blades decreases and it is for this reason that 2 blade propellers are more efficient than 3 blade propellers. A three blade propeller is the better way to go. You only have one blade moving through the disturbed water at any time. Two blades are still pushing the boat.

Some years ago while working for Ramoser VarioPROP we used a simple but non-standard rule of subtracting one-inch diameter when moving from a 2-blade to a 3-blade prop and initially keeping the same pitch.
Then if necessary tweak the VarioPROP by reducing the 3-blade props pitch in 14-inch increments – or perhaps 12-inch increments for larger props say over 13-inch diameter. As a two blade will have less drag than a 3 blade while not much more drag there is more drag in your mind and you will use it as an excuse as to why the boat is going slow. It looks like someone could get a composite 3-bladed prop for a little over 12000 vs a 2-bladed one for 9400. I hear that 2-bladed props are a little lighter faster and noisiervs quieter and less vibration in the 3-bladed version.

My research has yielded that the third blade requires more than 180 hp to justify the 3rd blade. Two blades are more efficient than additional blades due to disturbed air etc.
