Took it to a well-respected local dealer. Running at full throttle at a thousand revs too low could easily be the cause of overheating on this motor.
Have you checked your propeller for debris.
Boat runs slow at full throttle. One possible reason why boats no longer achieve appropriate speeds at full throttle is a spun prop. This occurs when the bond between the propshaft and blades are broken which subsequently causes the rubber insert to spin independently. Why is my boat running slow at full throttle.
Even if your boat is operational riding with a spun blade places the propeller at risk for damage. Depending on the severity of the problem it could leave your boat dead in the water unless the problem is fixed ASAP. Have you checked your propeller for debris.
How is the throttle connected to the accelerator. That is possible as you would not be getting full throttle. That would cut down on the air flow.
Check the linkage foe throttle plates opening all the way at full throttle. You can do this with engine off advance the throttle to wide open throttle make sure the throttle plates are full open and that the timing is advancing also. A good prop dealer will recommend a starting point and will have you try a couple of props to find the best setup for your boat.
Running at full throttle at a thousand revs too low could easily be the cause of overheating on this motor. The cooling water pump turns at the same speed as the powerhead and its flow rate depends on the motor speed. Take a light and shine in the jet pump.
The distance between the impeller and the ring should be less than the thickness of quarter. If there is more clearance than that the wear ring needs replacing. If the clearance is good then probably the carbon seal ring is bad and needs replacing.
Overhaul it and it should take care of the problem to some extent to rule out the accelerator pump just remove the flame arrestor and with the motor off open up the choke and look down into the carb while slowly moving the throttle you should see a steady stream of fuel in both primary front ports until the throttle is fully opened up it the pump is bad it will spray stop spray or all together not spray. One its starving for fuel. These pumps use the fuel to lubricate themselves and a blocked filter at the pump or your regular fuel filter will cause this to happen.
Makes the same or worse sound as when you first turn the key on and the pumps primes itself. Two they are in the early stages of failing. DF115 runs at 10 MPH full throttle 4000 RPM.
Hi My 2003 DF115 starts fine and runs good at slow speeds but tops out at 10 MPH and 4000 RPM at WOT. I changed spark plugs marked my prop hub for slippage bypassed fuelwater separator and gas tank with fresh fuel by connecting to the fuel pump. Easing a boat on plane slowly is far worse for an engine than jamming the throttle quickly.
During acceleration an engine is under its greatest strain so drivers should minimize that time. In addition to applying the throttle quickly make sure the outdrive or outboard is trimmed all the way in and the trim tabs if present are engaged. Some old mercs have a piece of metal below the engine housing in the exhaust channel that can break lose and wedge in the exhaust channel.
If this is the problem the only fix is to take the head off and remove the metal. You can run em without the metal. The sympton for this situation is the motor will idle ok but wont run at full throtle.
The problem is not bad gas. The only thing that will make it run full speed is to remove the cover and then place your hand over the carb opening. It doesnt have a breathercover over that opening and the mechanic says it wont help.
He suggests an entire new carburetor. I dont know too much about boats. Please help if you can.
With the engine NOT RUNNING but in forward gear have someone advance the throttle slowly from the idle position to full throttle while you observe the timer base. It should advance smoothly throughout that travel range. At full throttle and averaged across makes and models those engines burn about one gallon of fuel per hour for every 10 horsepower hp.
Generally it takes about 25 hp to plane 100 pounds for a near flat-bottomed boat. Other shapes such as deep-v hulls require more power. I recommend not driving continuously at 85 throttle I feel the 951 isnt robust enough for that.
Short blasts even full throttle for a minute or two are fine but prolonged 85 throttle this is pushing it IMO. I cruise my boat around 5200RPM about 12 throttle to 5800RPM or so mostly around 5200 just above where the RAVES are open constantly. Can anyone suggest solution to a problem with my newly-acquired but VERY old 2hp Johnson two-stroke outboard built 1983.
Starts easily and runs well at medium and full throttle but cuts out at anything below half speed and certainly wont tickover. Took it to a well-respected local dealer. If your outboard engine is sputtering at any speed idle or full throttle it could be the result of several common malfunctions.
You may need to make a few timing adjustments or replace a spark plug or you may need serious mechanical inquiry. I have a Johnson 70HP 3 cyclinder outboard that usually runs fine. Sometimes it loses power to about 5mph at full throttle.
That may last seconds or 1 hour then fine for a week or loner. Every inch of pitch usually changes the engines speed 150 200 rpm so full throttle rpm should increase when using a lower pitch prop of the same style. Planing boats run at their best when at near full speed and lightly loaded.
Of course you wont run a boat without passengers and all the accessories. Large and small boats benefit from trim tabs by getting the boat out of the hole and on plane quickly then correcting for uneven weight distribution that is common on larger boats. The correct power up process is by turning on the transmitter controller first and then the boat.
Plug in the Li-Po battery and then you will hear a beeping sound. Now pull the throttle trigger if it is a trigger style transmitter to the full position and release it back to neutral. I am testing my boat.
Then motor drops down to just above idle rpm even with throttle in full position. With throttle in full position motor ran slow but seemed a little out of sync. If I pulled the thtottle back motor ran slow and just as smooth as ever.
We motored back to the ramp even started and stoped to check under the hood. Bella 7000 run slow cruise then full-throttle. If playback doesnt begin shortly try restarting your device.
