Im not an expert so research this some more but my HDS Ice pack actually has the battery installed on its side. The batteries are sealed lead acid batteries and will not spill whether you put them on the side or not.
Gel cell batterys can be mounted any which way though.
Can you lay a battery on its side. Can your batteries be laid on their side. Our batteries can be operated in virtually any orientation without loss of capacity or electrolyte leakage. However upside down operation is not recommended.

Look at where the vents and. The batteries in the 04 Sporties are AGM style batteries OEM. Im not sure when the Moco started putting in AGM batteries.

All it contains are plates and acid so it doesnt matter as long as its not being charged while on it side as plates will be exposed and buckle and nothing leaked out thats a simple fix. Theres something just not right about laying batteries on their sides and I dont care what they say. To my way of thinking the second battery is there in case the first battery fails and then you only need enough CCA to start your motor.
If possible put them up right. Thats what theyve been engineered for. But can be done on their side.

Its an AGM battery. Because of this design Im going to answer with YES you can install a battery on its sidepending the make of the battery. If you are using a breakaway kit like the Hopkins Engager Trailer BreakAway Kit 20099 that features a sealed battery in an enclosure then you can mount it sideways if that is a better mounting solution on your trailer.
We do often see trailers with their breakaway battery installed in this way. Generally sealed lead-acid batteries will work in any orientation. However be sure you dont cover up any vents the UPS has by laying it on its side.

Ive had Ballistic Lithium Ion batteries for several years and their insructions say they can be mounted in any position. Mine have always been laying on their side. When I was fast motorcycles were slow.
Now motorcycles are fast and Im slow. Now I can go 3 or 4 days without firing up the Honda 2kw genset. I need AGMs because its not convenient to have batteries venting in my camper.
