I hope this helps. 5 Oct 5 2008.
He did tell me you can use regular fuses they are just longer and then you would not be able to put the lid on the fuse box.
Cigarette lighter works but wont charge. If this makes sense when you push the lighter element in the contacts are made to heat up the element. So the ground is deep in the well. These new charging plugs as far as I can tell are not completing that circuit You just might need to move the ground wire up the outside sleeve of the lighter to fix this.
So my cigarette lighter socket appears to have power as the ring of light comes on when the lights are on. BUT when I plug a USB gadget thing into it my phone wont charge. I have tried multiple gadgets that I know work so I can eliminate that.
If it can light a cigarette that means it works. It is a possibility that your charging adapter is not working correctly. Usually an adapter has a light indicator to show that it is on does yours have that.
Also try out another phone charger to test it out. My cigarette lighters do not work to charge my cell. Yes could be cigarette lighter fuse blowed.
Check fuse no 42 - F42 20A cigarette lighter 12 Volts. For 2006 VW Jetta the fuse box is located on the left side of dashboard behind a plastic cover for left hand steering wheel vehicle. Charger through cigarette lighter will not work First using multimeter check if theres voltage at the cigarette lighter slot as if there is then the problem is in charger otherwise check for continuity of Cigarette lighter wiring.
Posted on Jun 29 2009. I have checked my cigarette lighter with a multimeter and i have 12v. I proved it worked by trying the actual lighter itself so i know it has current too.
But when i plug in a usb device and the iphone cable it will not charge my phone. I have checked the usb device it is giving me 5v. I can charge my colleagues Samsung but it wont work on my iphone.
99 of the time its the fuse- look in the fuse compartment for the lighter socket fuse and check it Another common fault is that the socket has come loose- if you can stick your finger in it and spin the whole socket back and forth then that c. This wont help you with your problem but there should be a 4th charging port inside your car under the dash in the passenger side. Im just saying because you said youve tried all 3.
Find that one and see if that one works. Make sure your car is on. Loose or stuck change could cause the cigarette lighter to stop working.
You may need a small pair of pliers or the sharp edge of an old credit card to successfully retrieve the loose change. If the lighter still isnt working after youve removed the change check to see if the circuit has been shorted. Cigarette lighter wont work with phone charger.
If the Cigarette Lighter works the Phone Charger is the only device that does NOT workBe sure the Phone Charger works in other vehiclesIf not there is typically a fuse in the end of the Phone Charger Plug InIf so then the BMW Cigarette Lighter may not adapt to the Phone Charger or the Phone. I couldnt turn on the device via the cigarette lighter port in front of cup holders. The device works on my m5.
My iPhone charger also did not show any signs of life when connected to any of cigarettes charging ports. I thought maybe these ports are dead but interestingly my air pump works flawlessly with the same charging port. Discussion Starter 1 Oct 29 2015.
I recently bought a 2014 Altima S with 31K miles from Hertz. Both of the cigarette lighters12V power outlets in the car dont work. I tried replacing the 20v fuse in the box to the left of the drivers seat but this didnt help.
Im not entirely sure I replaced the correct fuse since I had to look up. 1A Auto shows you what to do if your cigarette lighter power outlet has stopped working List of tools used Needle nose pliers http1aautotca1AXAA00. The cigarette lighter power outlet near the shifter and the 12V outlet in the compartment btw the seats both are not working in my car.
I checked the fuse under the dashboard and there is nothing wrong with the fuse. I know this for sure since I interchanged it with the radio fuse and the. If the lighters fuse is working fine you need to check it from inside.
In this case the problem may exist inside the lighter. The issue in the socket could be due to debris or any other random objects. To resolve this you will need to take out the whole socket and clean it.
No you need a test light that checks power on the connector that provides power to the cigarette lighter. The first thing you need to check is make sure it is the correct fuse you are checking and if it is then check power to the lighter to make sure you are getting signal to it. I hope this helps.
5 Oct 5 2008. Most car are designed where you cant use the cigarette lighter for those plug in style electronics they are being setup for cigarette lighters only. You have to use a power outlet if your car has one.
Lots of fords are this way you cant even begin to fit a cell charger into the outlet itll only fit. I have the wireless charging tray but as a backup when my wife is with me I ordered a USB-C cable to use with her Samsung. I figured it was power supply for behind the front 2 seats so perhaps it will provide power in the center console as well.
The cigarette lighter one I have seems to work but it is not secure enough to maintain the contacts. The only thing is Im kind of struggling with the cigarette lighter and the usb. The cigarette lighter does not work at all also the rear vent for the ac does not work at all either.
The usb connects to my phone and plays on the aux. However the phone battery does not charge. It slowly goes down in battery.
The cigarette wiring can carry 30amps so Im not sure thats the problem I to have a usb charger that worked for a while then stopped cigarette lighter works fine as said and another usb charger works so it is strange I have also wired my heated seats in the same power source as the cigarette socket so current is not the problem here although not working in the car my usb still works. The service man came right out and tested them found 1 fuse was blown even though it looked fine and replaced it charged me 133 for the fuse only and sent me on my way. He did tell me you can use regular fuses they are just longer and then you would not be able to put the lid on the fuse box.
A cigarette lighter is practically installed in every car and also serves as a power source for phone chargers and Co. If the socket does not work there can be various reasons. We have summarized which these are in this article.
Like many other electrical components of your car the cigarette lighter has a fuse. You should check this first. Ive got a 2-USB to cigarette-lighter adapter that I use to charge my own phone and that of my passenger.
Lately the power has been cutting out. Wigglingtwisting the adapter can reconnect it but often only very briefly. I find I have to wiggle it a good deal until it finally establishes a good connection and Im good to drive for a while.
Back at it again.
