The engine turns over. Volvo penta 57 hard starting after warm up to normal temp Sounds a bit like a fuelling issue perhaps a sensor has a fault.
Most of the causes are fuel related problems.
Fuel injected engine hard to start when hot. How do you fix a hard start engine. Here are the components in the order they operate when you insert the key. Starter pushes the flywheel or flexplate.
The engine turns over. Start the car in Park. What can cause an engine not to start.
Car still wont start. What causes a fuel injected muti port injection engine to be hard to start when it is hot. Fires up when cold in seconds when try to start after it is at operating temp it takes four or more tries and then usually stalls once or twice before starting.
It was mentioned to. This way fuel injected engines would not become so easily obstruded by vapors as other engines would and therefore the car would not have the same problems to start as another would. Also engines might become hard to start while being hot if it coincides with the season in which refiners change from one fuel blend to another.
Sometimes gasoline refiners change from a higher volatility. At the beginning a worn FPR or fuel injector may give in to pressure in the fuel line and then stop leaking. If the fuel lines are hot under hot weather conditions and a hot engine the fuel will have room to evaporate inside the line creating a hard-to-start condition.
To clear a short soak you need to pressurize the upper fuel lines with just enough fuel to push out the vapor and not too much that you flood the intake ports. This is where most pilots get in trouble with hot starts. A hot engine needs far less fuel to start than a cold engine.
The theory is to begin the starting sequence for a short heat soak with NO fuel flow and then ADD fuel slowly until it fires off. Now you see why the engine has a hard time cranking over until the engine cools down only this time its the hot engine expanding the cold air fuel mixture. The other reasons could also be the battery the starter the alternator or a bad ground wire or battery cable connection.
And while its true that certain types of engines fuel injected particularly have gained reputations as difficult hot-starters the right technique can mean the difference between a running engine and a dead battery. What makes a hot start hot. For air-cooled engines its generally the period between 15 minutes and two hours after shutdown.
Istartair claims to have a solution to make starting big bore hot fuel injected engines as easy to start as a modern car. So far the costly part has worked out. Just to add the engine has always been hard to hot it start.
Even when the engine was new with only 30 or 40 hrs on it. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk drotto May 7. The cause of this possible difficulty is simply heat soaking of the fuel lines inside the engine cowling or nacelle after engine shutdown in hot weather.
The actual condition is temporary fuel starvation due to vaporization of fuel in the lines inside the engine cowling. 1 What to do when a hot engine is hard to start. Most of the causes are fuel related problems.
Fuel cannot circulate well due to the way in which vapor blocks it. As a result the engine would not start as easily as it should. In worse cases it would not start at all.
This happens if the engine is extremely hot. Even after the engine is shut off it would keep on acquiring temperature for a short while. Hard starting when HOT but the engine spins up fine means either lack of fuel or weak no spark.
If your Dyna is EFI your fuel pump is losing primepressure due to fuel line leaklook here. Hot Starting a Fuel Injected Lycoming Engine IO-360 September 18 2011 Art Zemon. Lycoming engine in a Piper Arrow.
The fuel injected IO-360 Lycoming engine in my Piper Arrow has always been difficult to start when it is hot but I finally found a technique that works quickly and reliably. First a bit of background on the issue. On a hot engine the fuel can boil in the fuel line with the engine off.
Cycling the key activates the fuel pump and ensures a solid column of cooler fuel in the fuel line to the injector. Just pushing the button will work if you crank long enough to achieve the rpm that runs the pump. Turn key on and crank engine.
The issue is undoubtedly vapor lock. In the fuel injected Lyc 540 the fuel injection plumbing is on the top of the engine which is the cold side of the engine when you are flying but when parked heat rises. The following procedure runs cooler fuel through the plumbing while flooding the engine then the flooded start procedure is necessary.
It would start up fine in the morning run fine. But the moment I shut it off to string trim edge and blow it would decide to blow out black smoke upon start-up then sputter until I choked it and it cleared up. So it would go from rich to starving for fuel just like that.
Nobody could figure it out so they replaced the motor. Starts hard when engine hot. In a fuel injected engine one does not need to touch the accelerator pedal IF everything is operating properly.
What hellokit is saying here is that you may have a flooded condition due to a dripping injector or even a leaking fuel pressure regulator and in a case like this it is perfectly. Bosch CIS Fuel Injected Engine Cold and Hot Start Problems. If playback doesnt begin shortly try restarting your device.
If you have spark I am wrong the first time ever and we will address the fuel problem. First thing on a fuel problem is the check to see if the pump is working under hot conditions by removing the fuel line going to the carb and turning the engine over. Crank the engine for 2-3 seconds and turn key back to run but dont turn it all the way to off.
Now crank it again and it should fire right up. Not sure why this works but a number of members on another forum with Kawasaki EFI engines use this method in cold weather for cold starts. Once the engine is warm it should start right up as normal.
Mercruiser hard to start when hot. Anytime an engine exhibits this type of sympton consider vapor lock. When you are moving the engine compartment is getting fresh air and the compartment stays fairly cool.
When you stop moving it heats up. Your gas line routes near your engine on the way to the carb. Joined Apr 30 2009.
10 Apr 27 2012. Sounds like a weak statorthe next time your bike will not start when hot remove a spark plug wire and take a good plug with you attach to plug wire ground the plug to the motor and hit the start button to see if there is sparkhope this helps Allen A. Volvo penta 57 hard starting after warm up to normal temp Sounds a bit like a fuelling issue perhaps a sensor has a fault.
As you have 2 engines I would be inclined to do a quick swap of the ECU to see if that clears the problem or not. We could do with a bit more info re. What engine you have because there are a multitude of 57s.
I do fly behind three turbocharged fuel injected engines in other planes Continental 520 and Lycoming 540 and I do the hot start exactly the same as Thomas D. In those planes it works very well. I have noticed however that individual engines can have personalities even the two of the same type of engines on one plane.
