Save Reply ojrana Registered 2014 Mercedes-Benz C350 4MATIC. The Fuel Evap Canister is located on the bottom of the vehicle and is required due to EPA regulations. The canister has a charcoal filter in it and traps vapors when fuel is evaporated and sends that fuel back into the tank.
When that canister gets clogged with dirt you will have problems refilling the tank. I cant as was suggested just call it full when it shuts off the first time. I have to fill up the tank and reset the odometer to avoid running out of gas.
This morning when I filled up I had 275 miles since filling up last. The tank took about 25 gallons before shutting the pump off. Make sure not to blow too much pressure into the tank since a leak from the fuel pump seal or from some other component could be created.
If the tank is not venting properly it may actually swell when blowing air in through the hoses. It may be normal for the tank to expand a little and quickly contract when the air exits the tank. When you put in gas it washed the filter off and your truck started.

Ive been getting by for the past year by a little trick that at least speeds the filling up. There is a little switch to the right of the filler tube that gets pressed when you put on tighten the gas cap. The button must vent the tank when the gas cap is on and by pressing the button when you fill up it seems to allow enough pressure to escape to allow the tank to fill up still slowly.
