Turn ignition key to RUN. The trim works via the Throttles the dash Trim switches and from the motors themselves but the Trim indicator doesnt adjust on the Command Link.
I just purchased a new boat with a 200 HO.
How does a boat trim gauge work. The gauge moves from full up to down with the slightest amount of the sender turning. What you need to do is lower your drive till the trim pump makes that funny noise when it reaches the full down position. Set the trim sender so.
They usually have 2 or three wires that run to the digital ports inside the engine cowling. These digital ports are what your motor remote throttle trim ignition connects to. Part of this wiring harness runs forwards from your remote to tachometer at the helm.
Many tachs have the trim gauge integrated within them. Trim is controlled with a toggle button on the control lever or on the dash. The trim system uses hydraulic rams to change the angle of the outboard motor or sterndrive gearcase and with it the angle of the propeller shaft relative to the boat transom through a range of about 20 degrees.
Trim Position Sender Adjustment 1. Place drive unit in full down position. Loosen trim position sender retaining screws.
Turn ignition key to RUN. Rotate sender housing in either direction until power trim gauge needle rests at bottom of green WC. Jul 09 2019 8.
Once the wire is hooked up you can press the senders follower to verify that it changes the trim readout on the gauge. If needed there is a screw on it that can be loosened to let you reposition the sender so that it reads 1 bar when the motor is tilted all the way downin. When more current flows the pointer moves to.
The way the trim gauge is fairly simple it all works on a resistance to ground principle. The trim sending unit on the side of the gimbal ring is a variable resistor. The Trim Position Switch operates the Trim Gauge.
When the Trim Position Switch fails the gauge usually pegs to full up. The Trim Limit Switch prevents the driver from over-trimming the outdrive while under way. It is an important limiting feature which prevents damage to the drive andor loss of control of the vessel.
Your Boats Trim System. I have the boat at home getting ready for DS. The gauge is pegged.
I have a good ground and 105 volts at the power wire going to gauge. How do I test the gauge. Shouldnt it have gone to down position when I removed the power wire from gauge.
A boats trim gauge monitors the position of the drive or outboard. Make sure its accurately adjusted. Grab a level and place it against the underside of the anti-cavitation plate on the drive or outboard motor.
Have someone at the helm adjust the trim until the instrument reads level and note the position on the indicator. After installing A sides Scan Imaging in my Nitro Z6 the trim gauge does not work. The sending unit tests OK and goes into the wiring harness on a brownwhite wire.
The trim gauge test OK and has a yellow wire going into a maze under the dash. The TRIM gauge circuit usually consists of–a source of current provide by the boats 12-Volt battery–a variable resistance proportional to the engine tilt position. I just purchased a new boat with a 200 HO.
The motor has a jet installed and works wonderfully. I am wanting to add a trim gauge to my dash displays. I have a gauge on the way that will work for my motor.
However I need to know what wires from the wiring harness I will need to feed the gauge. I know the motor has a trim transducer. The Power Trim works by pushing the TiltTrim button when the motor is running.
The trim function has a small range when compared to the overall Tilt of the motor and is used to make the boat bow angle higher once the boat is moving at speed and hence there is less hull surface drag and the boat goes faster. The trim gauge and some of my other gauges work intermittently. I assume I have a ground problem.
The trim works okay most of the time however. My dealers 90 miles away. Ill get the boat up there sometime in the future to get it fixed.
Thats whats nice about a long warranty period. I have Twin Yamaha F200XBs Mechanical non-Digital motors. I have the Command Link gauge 6YC and my last trip the Trim Tab indicator is showing the trim in the lowest position 1-Bar for both motors.
The trim works via the Throttles the dash Trim switches and from the motors themselves but the Trim indicator doesnt adjust on the Command Link. If it does check for voltage back at the trim pump connections. If no voltage there apply 12 VDC there to check gauge movement.
Next check the three wire connector RED BLUE GREEN at the pump assembly. This plug can vibrate loose and cause your problem. Pull it off and see if the pins are clean and not corroded.
Out for a ride today and notices my Trim Gauge is not working. When I turn the ignition on and get the 4 warning lights the gauge reads all the way up and once a start the engine it drops back to all the way down. When I adjust the trim the gauge stays in the all the way down position regardless of where the engine actually is trimed.
Turned out to be the gauge. So as a piece of advice think about buying a gauge first. You can always return that if it doesnt work.
And you havent spent all the time changing the sending unit. In hindsight I shouldve checked the resistance at the back of the gauge to see if the trim pot was moving first.
