Lowrance elite 7 hdi transducer problems. Lowrance HDI Elite 7 Problems Finally installed unit after 5 months tested today. Depth side scan d n work. GPS water temp does.
I used the same transducer drill holes of my old unit. I guess the angle isnt right 2. Finally got the boat out and tested my new replacement Elite 7 HDI.
Worked awesome specially with the Airmar thru hull transducer. The transducer does the conventional and downscan for the unit and so was a bit pricey. However at the end it was worth it.
Now I just have to learn all of the functions and adjustments etc. My skipper upgraded his old Lowrance combo unit to a new Elite 7 hdi combo with the good map card. After setting everything up we went out fishing.
Wow the fishfinder and down-scan is great. We can actually see the fish below. The issue we are having is with the map side when we zoom in the screen goes blank for 15 - 40 seconds.
If you havent read his post on how to reboot your elite 7 hdi this is how you get it to unfreeze from the opening display. Hold mob and - together and then hit power while still holding the - together continue holding - for 30 sec and then release it takes a minute or two but the unit reboots back original settings you will have to reput in your prefrences but hey its back on. Most customers are okay with the Lowrance Hook 7.
However common issues like not powering up misreading and transducer problems are very frequent. The unit shuts off in the middle of a fishing trip which is financially harmful to fishermen. Customers noticed that after Lowrance got taken over from Linda Colt its quality declined.
I have never done it but have heard you can order a transducer directly from airmar with Lowrance connectors on it spendy though the number that comes to mind was around 800 I am prolly way off though. Like Nick said it feels like a software issue. Like not enough computer power to process all of the returns from the weeds.

NMEA2000 networking for external GPS and waypoint sharing only NMEA0183 networking does not have an Ethernet port - from the Elite 7 FAQ on Lowrances website. It really is too bad that it does not have full NMEA2000 capability. Be sure and mount the transducer on the transom instead of the bottom of the trolling motor.
You need more speed to get the clearest image. Lowrance should be ashamed to advertise it will handle Navionics with the Elite 7 HDI it is a disservice to the buyer. With these two sticking points avoided the Lowrance Elite 7 HDI is a descent unit.
Lowrance Elite 7 HDI I also have this problem with the losing bottom and reading 5-15 meters when Im in anything from 10m to 40m. I have a Lowrance Elite 7 HDI and FishHawk X4 transducers mounted on opposite sides of the transom. I mounted them that way because FishHawk recommended keeping them a good distance apart. My issue was with interference on my Lowrance.
It didnt read great and eventually lost bottom. However there were big problems. The HDI transducer was much larger than the smaller cylindrical DSI item and with it sat within the hull contours of the Outback it was offset considerably from the scupper hole.
I needed the transducer mounted hard up against the hull for maximum protection so I couldnt move closer to the scupper hole. Lowrance Elite 4 HDI transducer problems. Started by davgaard July 30 2014.

The trick is to run the Lowrance PowerData cable from the HDI display head back to your battery and the transducer cable from ducer to display head. That solves the problem of the Fat connector. The remaining issue is fitting all the cables into a Hobie rubber insert and the through-hull fitting.

The new Lowrance Elite 7 HDI unit is a great compromise between old GPS Sonar and the new HDS Gen 2 units. This unit features down scan wide view with thr. The elite 5 HDI was sold as three packages head unit 83200 and 83200 455800.
You got the 83200 package. The good news is I just sold one of those 83200khz in used condition for 50 so you should be able to get at lest that out of the transducer and the HDI transducer is around 100. My elite 7 hdi is the biggest piece of junk i have ever owned in a fish finder.
It has not worked right out of the box and has major software problems. The down scan never worked at all and the software would not go to what ever i selected it just went to where ever it felt like. Lowrance customer service is even worse.

Well No I think the one issue that was a problem has gotten no better and that is the rate at which the Hook 7 can load and. Lowrance Elite 4 HDI shows the water temperature and speed as it calibrates the data from the transducer temperature sensor. It also has an alarm that goes off when the fish icon appears on display.
