I have been running my new Merc 150 4 stroke tiller on my sled for about 3 weeks almost daily and I can honestly say I LOVE this motor. I looked and couldnt find one.

Mercury 150 four stroke problems. Users suggest that one should not expect much from Mercury Pro XS 150 as it is a low-budget motor. However Mercury produces strong and reliable engines. Compared to competitor models it can achieve a bit higher RPM.

I have a 2015 mercury 150 4 stroke which has suddenly decided to bubble from the exhaust. I have never seen anything like this before. The motor starts fine idles quietly for a couple of minutes and then starts this violent bubbling.

There is a part called a propeller bore sleeve which is made of plastic and fits on the drive shaft in front of the thrust washer. This plastic part eats itself after a few hours of running and spits the pieces out. I think Mercury metallurgy is superior less issues with corrosion.

The belt is stretch to fit. To remove alternator remove the rear alternator screw loosen the alternator front screw slightly and push alternator towards front of engine to unload belt for removal. Say goodbye to lower end torque.

Mercury recommends using either unleaded Regular 87 Octane Minimum RM2 or 90 RON 10 Ethanol Maximum for all their outboard motor and especially for the 25HP 4 stroke one. Bought it used but it ran fine. I believe they used ethanal fuel in it i ended up replacing the fuel pickup tube in the tank it cracked off i replaced the primer bulb because it split in two. Ran fine took it.

It is so quiet smooth and with the Mercury Big Tiller its a dream to handle. I had a Merc 200 2 stroke previously. August 12 2020 100821 AM.
I recently replaced the motor on my Stratus 285 Magnum from a 175 Johnson 2 stroke to a Mercury 150L 4 stroke. I had initial problems getting the boat to get on plane but after dropping the motor down on the plate about an inch that seemed to be resolved. It will get on plane but very slowly.
2014 Mercury Four Stroke Serious Hesitation at 3000 RPMS problem stops after anchor and return. I had this issue on a 2010 90hp 4 stroke EFI and it was the neutral safety switch. You can test this by removing the wiring harness.
The part is 40 and can be replaced easily.
