I am capable of doing minor things and can follow instructions pretty well but I cant rebuild an engine or anything. Cylinder wall and piston were badly scorned I called the customer and asked how he mixes his gas and oil thought that was going to be the issue and what his overall procedure was when running and storing the engine.
If you have a Mercury EFI 4 stroke I recommend you get to know the symptoms of FSM problems and dont let the shop BS you around installing filters and replacing fuel line bulbs.
Mercury 25 hp 4 stroke problems. Some of the Mercury 25 HP 4 stroke motor users have complained that the motor sometimes sputters or constantly loses more power than usual. I did check all the fuses non-are blow also. 2005 Mercury 25 hp 4 stroke fuel problem sounds like heat soakyou might try priming the engine before startingyou might run some mercury fuel system cleaner thru itthe jets in the 4 stroke carbs are very small they start to clog easily. 25 hp Mercury 4 stroke will not start or starts extremely hard.
Ran with anti-siphon valve removed but had to occasionally pump the fuel bulb. Replaced fuel pump and it ran good with the anti-siphon valve reinstalled but only lased for a couple outings now wont start. Too much of this gunk can cause the carburetor to overflow.
When an overflow in a 25 Hp mercury boat motor occurs the motor can become flooded and make it difficult for valves to close. Remove the fuel cap to drain the old fuel. Soak the carburetor in a carburetor-cleaning solution.
Take the hood off. And look back toward the carb. If theres a little pump there.
Then all you need to do is give it gas 3 or three times. That is a primer pump When you advance the throttle it squirts gas into the carb being it does not have a choke. My 25 Hp Yamaha 4-stroke is the same way.
I have a 2013 mercury 25hp 4 stroke efistarts fine red light comes on then shuts off. With in 15 min light comes back on with a high pierced soundboat never drops horsepower pissing water and no overheatI shut down motorrestarted without problems red light goes out n never have a problem again. And switch failure does not set a code.
