Posted 02-25-2008 1046 AM ET US I just hooked up a Mercury outboard motor warning horn to my Mercury outboard motor wiring harness. The wires looked as if the horn had been removed in a bit of a rush. As suspected when the ignition key is switch on the warning horn continues to beep in one second.
Why arent you asking this. To the dealer that rigged this engine or calling Merc consumer if that dealer cant give you an answerToo all listening inthere is alot of product out there that gets changed on an anual basis and sometimes the techs and dealers have no idea what form those changes are in because the manufactures dont tell us what their doingThats frustrating for me as well as the consumerI will say that that horn. Mercury doesnt offer a replacement float just the whole tank.

I am about to purchase a 2003 Mr Pike 16 with a 2003 90 Merc 2 Stroke carb. My question is in regards to the alarm system for overheat and low oil. In looking through some documents it states that the alarm should chirp to let you know the system is working.

Disconnect the sensor and turn the key switch On If the warning continues to operate replace the ICM. Turn the key switch on. If the engine overheat warning does not activate when you turn the key switch to the On position replace the sensor as well.

The problem could be something as simple as the warning horn going bad in which case replacing it could solve it. You can test operation of the horn with the key on and you ground the wire going to the temperature sensor on the cylinder to a bare engine contact then the horn should sound.
