Trim switch on throttle not working. We have a 2014 Sweetwater 2086. The trim updown switch on the throttleshift lever only works to raise the motor. The down button is no longer working.
A couple of weeks ago the down button worked intermittently. If I continued to push the button it may or. Once you have the handle off inspect the wires where they come through the control.
If anything is chaffed or broken repair it. It the wires look good then the trim switch is bad. Replace the trim switch.
We know the trim works as it works on the engine switch. Unplug the black wires and with a short piece of wire make a jumper wire to connect the pw and bw connectors. Plug the wire in and try the TRIM switch.

My trim switch on the throttle control just stopped working. I have tried to chase the wire back to the solenoid and it seems like everything is ok. For the trimtilt problem you are experiencing if the wires from the limit switch port side and trim position sender starboard side are in good condition they Switch or sender can be disassembled to clean out the old hardened grease. SCRIBE the sides of each one and the OD for a reference mark before removal. When this switch fails the TRIM BUTTON does not work.
Only the TRAILER BUTTON will work. When one switch fails you will end up replacing both switches. This is because the switches are sold in sets of two.
Both the Trim Limit and the Trim Sender switches are sold together as a pair. Replacing the switches requires removal of the drive and bell housing. It did not respond to the Up trim switch we have a rocker switch on the throttle handle.

As others have said your assuming the switch on the throttle is bad when in fact the solenoid switch or both updown located on the trim pump housing at the stern might be bad. Move red meter lead to point E3 in junction box push trim switch in the down position. Battery voltage should be indicated. If trim motor does not run test motor.

No problems with the switch at the motor. Replaced the down relay a few years ago this problem has different symptoms. Started in the up direction only.
Thought I had a bad switch but its a sealed switch and looked good. Motor should trim up. Plug the green wire into the red wire.
Motor should trim up. If plugging the two wires into the red wire cause the motor to trim up and down but the switch wont do it then the switch is kaput. That switch particularly early versions one of which you have given the age of your motorcontrol box were known to fail prematurely.
Unplug the trim switch at XXXXX just follow the wire coming from the trim switch to this connector. Then in the plug that goes to the engine jump the center terminal to one of the other terminals does the trim operate. So if the trim up works and the trailer does not your trouble is somewhere between the switch in the control and the connector best bet check out the switch. The switch on the engine housing seems to have lost any action—-it is real loose when pressed. It used to be tighter to the touch. The throttle switch seems fine.
If the problem with your Yamaha remote throttle and shift handles trim switch is just a bad switch–and that is quite likely–you should be able to get a replacement part for just the switch. It would be completely ridiculous to have to discard the whole throttle handle assembly just to replace a small electrical rocker switch.
