Yamaha 2005 150 hp 4 stroke problems To drain the VST there is also a schrader valve on top with a little rubber plug you remove to get at. Once you open the drain screw on the bottom of the VST pushing in the pin on the schrader will allow air into the VST and thus let the gas drain out otherwise vacuum will hold gas in the VST bowl. I moor the boat full time so I only use the motors freshwater flush attached. This flushes the saltwater from everything except the head. The dealer said to use rabbit ears once a month.

Im on the second lower unit because they couldnt keep water out of the first and last season blew a powerhead. The powerhead was replaced but not a half a season later I have nightmarish issues again. 2004 Yam 150 4 stroke problem.
This is my neighbors boat. Long story short this engine wont accelerate. I flushed the fuel system checked the thermo switch and the block temp sensor gave it fresh fuel and when I try to accelerate it.
2004 Yamaha 150 4-stroke RPMbogging down problem What youre describing is almost classic symptom of VST pump andor filter failure. Also the injectors have tiny screens in the top of them that can clog. If they clog the injectors need replacing.
Ive done a few 115s and one F150. Its an expensive job. Yamaha 150 4-stroke injector issues.
I have a Yamaha 150 and I am having some issues. RPMs are only getting up to 4800 or so and will let back 400-600 RPM at that speed. Dealer says it was a bad injector so they changed only one and the problem has not changed much.
When its completely charged reinstall the battery and cables. Remember to connect the positive first and the negative second. Once thats done you can try the Yamaha outboards starter again.

My swivel tubes on both motors seemed to have hardened grease from previous owner not using the correct grease or not maintaining properly. I cant seem to get grease out of the top bushings. Im going to post some photos of what is going on.
Hello I have a 2007 Yamaha 150 four stroke outboard engine. I was recently coming in from a fishing trip and noticed my engine was having trouble keeping RPMs up. Instead of a max of around 5200 it was closer to 4200.
The next trip out the RPMs were reduced to 3200 and finally the engine just quit. Wed Aug 01 2018 1037 am. St some of the Sea Tow guys are getting like 10000 hours on theirs.
4-Strokes will last a long time as long as you take care of them. Some of them have issues like the Yamaha 225 corrosion stuff but on the whole they last a hell of a long time. Tell me about it.
Jan 27 2008. I Have a 2005 Yamaha 150 four stroke outboard on a 21 maycraft. Had no problems at all until December.
On first trip out since about august I noticed boat was not reaching full rpms or speed. Normally rpms will reach 5000 and 45knots. This trip could not get over 3800 rpms or 30knots.
Motor WILL reach 5000 in neutral. Yamaha 150 4-stroke has major issues. Published 2 years ago.
Yamaha outboards were the best outboard offered years ago but this no longer applies. I have owned 6 yamahas and make my living running them. Corrosion in the exhaust is causing holes to develop in the block which leads to engine failure.
Also the harmonic balancers have a nylon gear. Hopefully there is a really experienced expert Yamaha mechanic out there who can help. This is a total pain.

With the four stroke Mercury 175 ProXS and a 22 Tempest prop the Nitro did 63 MPH at 6011 RPM. The Tempest is a 14 ⅝ diameter. Boat Test used a Fury 23 assuming its a 3 blade and got 625 MPH at 5800 RPM.
Those are bad numbers for. Check the fuel lines connecting the outboard motor to the fuel tank. If any breaks or leakages are found immediately stop use of the outboard motor and take it to the shop for repairs.
