UPDATE- There are a couple of very well respected Yanmar dealers that have been using Dextron ATF Automatic transmission Fluid for decades on thousands of Yanmar tractors without any problems. Hello to the forum i have a question about how choose the best antiwear oil for my sailboat yanmar 3ym30 diesel engine that i use both shortly - from 15 minutes to 1 hour - at low rpm for undockingdocking operations or ungeared for battery charge and for long runs at higher rpm - the engine is rated 3600 i run it at 28002900 - even continuosly for 5060 hours mostly when theres wind. I like to use Rotella T 30 weight oil in our engine which happens to have spark plugs. Rotella T is a good choice for both diesel and gas engines check its ratings.
If you are planning on using your boat late into the season the 30W oil might be the better choice for cooler temps. Change your oil often. It is cheap insurance.
API CD is what Yanmar specify. Its generally reckoned to be OK to go up to API CF if you cant find CD. Halfords own-brand oil for older diesels is CF and what I buy.
According to the manual transmission oil for KM-series boxes is engine oil 10W30 API CC. I guess the tolerances may be wide enough to just use the same oil as in the engine.
